RandomControl releases Maverick Studio and Maverick Indie 2026.2

RandomControl has begun its 2026 updates to Maverick Render – Maverick Studio and Maverick Indie, its physically based GPU renderers for designers and entertainment artists.

The 2026.1 releases add a new Cutaway system for generating cutaway renders and animations, and a Spinner render mode for rendering interactive 360° online views of 3D models.

The 2026.2 releases add integration with still image camera-matching system fSpy.

Streamlined GPU renderers for visualization and entertainment work
Developed by Arion renderer creator RandomControl and launched in 2019, Maverick Studio is a streamlined renderer aimed at product and automotive visualisation.

It provides a drag-and-drop workflow for assigning PBR materials, and for setting up lighting and a render camera, plus a physically accurate spectral render engine with built-in denoising.

The software is CUDA-based, and supports out-of-core rendering.

It was later joined by Maverick Indie, a lower-priced edition aimed at entertainment work, which lacks support for CAD file formats, plus features like NURBS and cross-section rendering.


Maverick Render 2026.1: new Cutaway render system
The major new feature in the 2026.1 releases is the new Cutaway system, which makes it possible to create cutaway animations, slicing through 3D models non-destructively in real time.

It’s geared towards technical animations, and comes with a readymade library of hatching patterns and solid colors that can be applied to the cut surfaces.

The system can be used in conjunction with the software’s existing Trace Sets system to prevent specific parts of a model, like internal components, from being cut.


New Spinner render mode for online product visualizations
Other new features include the new Spinner render mode.

It’s aimed at product visualization and ecommerce work, and generates online 3D views of a model that can be rotated interactively by 360° in a standard web browser.

The system generates a matrix of prerendered views of the model from different angles, with automatically generated JavaScript and HTML code controlling which one is displayed.

RandomControl pitches the workflow as a way to preserve better visual fidelity, particularly for materials, than when using real-time online rendering engines.


Maverick Render 2026.2: Integration with still image camera-matching tool fSpy
The Maverick Render tools also get an importer for open-source camera matching app fSpy.

fSpy automatically generates a 3D camera matching the perspective of a photographic backplate, helping to integrate rendered 3D models into real-world environments.

Importing an fSpy solve into Maverick sets up the camera and backplate, and generates a matching floor plane.

The importer was actually added in Maverick Render 2026.1, but RandomControl’s blog post on the workflow describes it as part of Maverick Render 2026.2, which has just been released.

Other changes in 2026.2 include a new toolbar for Python plugins.

Pricing and system requirements
Maverick Indie and Maverick Studio are available for 64-bit Windows only. Both are CUDA-based, and require a RTX-compatible NVIDIA GPU.

Perpetual licences of Maverick Indie cost €395.99 (around $450). Rental starts at €19.99/month.

Perpetual licences of Maverick Studio cost €795.99 ($905). Rental starts at €39.99/month.
