Tutorial: Introduction to Compositing in Nuke
The Gnomon Workshop has released Introduction to Compositing in Nuke, a complete introductory guide to the software, recorded by freelance Compositor Tommaso Lunardi.
The workshop provides two hours of video training in Nuke.
A complete introduction to Nuke for students and junior artists
In the workshop, Lunardi sets out the fundamentals of compositing in Nuke, Foundry’s VFX industry-standard software.
The training uses a beginner-friendly approach suitable for students assigned their first compositing task, or junior artists aiming to build their skills in a studio environment.
Lunardi begins by discussing the best settings and preferences to use in Nuke to streamline workflow, and how to analyze each element of the comp and the plate provided.
Other lessons cover keying, mattes and alphas; edge refinement, color restoration and integration techniques; how to build backgrounds, and how to remove unwanted details in the foreground plate.
The final lesson in the workshop demonstrates how to integrate additional VFX elements; how to restore the plate’s grain; and how to set up the completed Nuke script for review.
The workshop uses free assets from ActionVFX, Vecteezy, FootageCrate, and Nukepedia.
Viewers of the workshop can also download project files including the completed Nuke script.
