Maxon releases Redshift 3.6.04
Maxon has released Redshift 3.6.04, the latest version of the production renderer.
The update adds a new Distance shader for motion graphics work, and improves performance in Redshift RT and Substance material support in the Cinema 4D plugin.
It is part of Maxon’s July 2024 releases, with Cinema 4D 2024.5 and Maxon Studio 2024.1.
New Distance shader creates colorful motion graphics effects
The main new feature in Redshift 3.0.04 is the Distance shader. Like its counterpart in Arnold, it measures the distance of points on a surface to another object.
It is then possible to map an animatable color ramp to the surface to create a range of motion graphics effects, like the one shown in the video above.
Updates to Redshift RT and the Cinema 4D plugin
Performance in Redshift RT, Redshift’s work-in-progress interactive render engine, has been improved, with better “first frame quality and responsiveness”.
Denoising in RT has also been improved, including during camera movements.
Support for Substance materials in the Cinema 4D plugin has been improved, with new Scale, Offset and Rotation settings for UVs in the Substance node.
Price and system requirements
Redshift 3.6.04 is compatible with Windows 10+, glibc 2.17+ Linux and macOS 12.6+.
The renderer’s integration plugins are compatible with 3ds Max 2018+, Blender 2.83+, Cinema 4D R21+, Houdini 17.5+ (18.0+ on macOS), Katana 4.0v1+ and Maya 2018+.
The software is rental-only, with subscriptions costing $45/month or $264/year.
