Adobe adds Firefly generative AI features to Substance 3D tools
Adobe is adding generative AI features from its Firefly platform to its Substance 3D tools.
3D capture tool Substance 3D Sampler and scene layout and rendering app Substance 3D Stager get new options for generating textures and backgrounds from text prompts.
The features will roll out in Substance 3D Sampler 4.4 and Substance 3D Stager 3.0: on show this week at GDC 2024, and available in beta to registered users today.
The latest Adobe apps to get new generative AI features from the Firefly toolset
The releases make Substance 3D Sampler and Stager the latest Adobe apps – and the first from the Substance 3D Collection – to integrate generative AI features from Firefly.
The AI art toolset was launched last year as a standalone web app, and has since been integrated into software including Photoshop.
Substance 3D Sampler 4.4’s new Text to Texture feature makes it possible to generate textures from simple text prompts, including both photorealistic and stylized textures.
Sampler automatically generates multiple variations of the texture, with users able to iterate by editing the prompt. Generated images are always square and tileable.
This demo video shows Text to Texture being used to generate a base texture for a material that the user then refines manually.
Substance 3D Stager 3.0’s Generative Background feature generates background images from text prompts, which Stager can use for environment lighting of 3D objects.
Price, system requirements and release dates
Substance 3D Sampler 4.4 and Substance 3D Stager 3.0 are available in beta. Existing users can download the beta versions via the Creative Cloud desktop app.
