Environment artist Michael Dunnam has made his Stroke 01 collection of custom ZBrush brushes available to download from his website, XMD Source.

The set includes the Dig brush namechecked by DC Collectibles sculptor Joe Menna in his presentation at ZBrush Summit 2018, shown in the video above.

Over 250 further custom ZBrush brushes are available free from XMD Source.

We’ve covered the free ZBrush resources available via Michael Dunnam’s Gumroad store before, but he has continued to release new content steadily since then.

By our count, XMD Source currently contains just over 270 free brushes, ranging from all-purpose tools like the Stroke 01 collection to complex IMM brushes intended for kitbashing concept sculpts.

Individual sets are themed around subject matter ranging from mechanical parts to skin and ground textures.

XMD Toolbox, Dunnam’s plugin for organising ZBrush brushes, alphas and UI layouts, is also free.

The site also contains commercial resource sets, which you can access by taking out a paid subscription. Subscriptions cost $7.99/month or $79.99/year, or there is a flat fee of $129.99 for lifetime membership.

Availability and system requirements
Michael Dunnam’s ZBrush brushes are supplied in ZBrush’s native ZBP format, with alphas in PSD format. The brushes are licensed for use in commercial work.

To download the free content, you will need to sign up for free membership on the site, then add the individual assets to your shopping cart.
