AMD ships Radeon ProRender 3.2 for Blender and Maya

AMD has released Radeon ProRender 3.2 for Blender and Radeon ProRender 3.2 for Maya, the latest versions of the Blender and Maya editions of its free, physically accurate GPU renderer.

The updates add support for deformation motion blur, a new RPR Toon Shader for cartoon-style rendering, and a new system for improving viewport performance by rendering at half resolution and upscaling.

The features have also been added to the Radeon ProRender USD Hydra render delegate, making them avaialble for use in compatible software like Houdini’s new Solaris toolset.

All editions: support for deformation as well as transformation motion blur
New features common to all three editions include support for deformation motion blur, making it possible to render character animations or cloth simulations with realistic blur.

Motion blur was previously only available when rendering camera motion or moving hard surface objects.

All editions: toon shading and viewport upscaling
The update also adds the RPR Toon Shader, a new node for generating toon-shaded non-photorealistic renders, in addition to the existing contour rendering system.

Users of all three editions can also now opt to render at half resolution and have the software upscale and denoise the image automatically, improving viewport rendering performance.

The functionality was first introduced in Radeon ProRender 3.1 for Blender.

In addition, the existing Subsurface Scattering and Volume shaders now work with Radeon ProRender 2.0, the latest version of the software’s rendering core, rolled out in previous versions of the plugins.

USD Hydra delegate only: export Cryptomatte AOVs from Houdini
In addition, the Radeon ProRender USD Hydra delegate can now export Cryptomatte AOVs from Houdini.

None of the other Radeon ProRender plugins have been updated: neither Radeon ProRender for 3ds Max or Radeon ProRender for Unreal Engine has had an update this year.

Availability and system requirements
All the editions of Radeon ProRender are free downloads. The source code of the plugins is available under the Apache Licence 2.0.

Radeon ProRender 3.2 for Blender is compatible with Blender 2.80+ on Windows, Linux and macOS.

Radeon ProRender 3.2 for Maya is compatible with Maya 2018+ on Windows and macOS.

Radeon ProRender USD Hydra delegate 2.1 is compatible with Houdini 18.5 on Windows, Linux and macOS.
