Download the free project files for the Unity 6 Time Ghost demo
Unity has shared the project files for Time Ghost, its tech demo showcasing the capabilities of Unity 6, the new version of the game engine, which has also just been released.
The demo, which runs in real time on a GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, showcases advances in lighting, hair, large-scale environments, and new AI workflows for cloth deformation.
Showcasing new lighting, world-building and simulation features in Unity 6
Previewed last month at the Unite 2024 conference, Time Ghost shows a soldier exploring a huge, seemingly empty landscape after mysteriously escaping what plays out like a steampunk version of trench warfare during World War I.
It showcases the capabilities of Unity 6, the latest major version of the game engine, including the GPU Resident Drawer to improve performance of scenes with a lot of instanced objects.
For lighting, the Adaptive Probe Volumes system was used to optimize the placement of light probes, automatically placing probes more densely in complex areas of the scene.
For cloth simulation, Time Ghost makes use of Sentis, Unity’s system for deploying custom AI models at runtime, with the demo team creating an machine learning model that runs in real time but approximates the behavior of offline simulations.
The demo also showcases advances in Unity’s real-time hair system, including automatic LOD generation and volumetric wind, and improved support for collisions in the VFX Graph.

Separate project files for the environment and lead character
The project files are now available as two separate Unity 6 packages – Time Ghost: Environment and Time Ghost: Character.
The Environment package includes one of the environments from the demo, and illustrates the techniques used for creating and lighting large-scale real-time scenes.
The Character package showcases the machine learning model for cloth deformation, and the hair setup.
System requirements and licensing
The Time Ghost: Environment and Time Ghost: Character packages are compatible with Unity 6.0+ (version 6000.0.23+).
They’re free downloads, available under the standard Unity Asset Store EULA in the case of the Environment package, and a custom EULA in the case of the Character package.
