Free tutorial: Creating Cinematics in Unreal Engine 5

The Gnomon Workshop has released Creating Cinematics in Unreal Engine 5: Chase Scene Workflow, a free tutorial recorded by DNEG Lead Real-Time Artist Kosuke Iwasaki.

The intermediate-level workshop provides over 30 minutes of video training in Unreal Engine, Blender and Houdini.

Create a compelling cinematic sequence in UE5 with The Gnomon Workshop’s free training
In the workshop, Iwasaki sets out how he created his entry for the recent Rampage Rally 3D community challenge.

Over the course of seven videos, he sets out his process for creating a real-time cinematic in UE5, using a modular, non-destructive workflow that supports rapid experimentation.

The workshop covers four main processes, three in Unreal Engine and one in Houdini.

In UE5, Iwasaki covers setting character rigging with Control Rig, creating destruction effects with Chaos Destruction, and creating environments procedurally with the PCG framework.

In Houdini, he looks at RBD workflows for creating advanced destruction effects that can be fed back into Unreal Engine.

Throughout the workshop, Iwasaki focuses on keeping animation and modeling pipelines separate, enabling proxy assets to be swapped with final meshes without redoing work.

To accompany the videos, The Gnomon Workshop has released free downloadable project files including sample Control Rig assets, Chaos-generated destroyed meshes, and PCG graphs.
