Tutorial: Game Animation – From Concept to Unity


The Gnomon Workshop has released Game Animation: From Concept to Unity, a detailed guide to game animation, recorded by Treyarch Senior Gameplay Animator Ali Pournassari.

The workshop, which is aimed at both indie developers and artists working at larger studios, provides five and a half hours of video training in Maya and Unity.

A complete guide to professional game animation workflows in Maya and Unity
In the workshop, Pourassari sets out a complete workflow for creating professional-quality animation for videogames, from generating a unique idea to delivering the final animation.

Working in Maya, he breaks down the process of blocking out the animation, then the successive passes to polish it, before finally bringing the result into the Unity game engine.

The workshop sets out industry best practices, and provides tips for making your own game animations to stand out.

Ali Pournassari is Senior Gameplay Animator at Treyarch.

He has worked on a wide variety of projects, from games to visual effects and feature films, with studios including Sony Pictures Imageworks, Industrial Light & Magic and Animal Logic.
