Adobe releases Photoshop 27.8

Adobe has released Photoshop 27.8, the latest version of the image-editing software, used in the entertainment industry for concept art, texture editing, and retouching renders.

The update makes it possible to use custom AI models trained on your own images in Generate Image, and updates the software to support OCIO 2.5, including ACES 2.0 configs.

Use more AI models with Generate Image, including custom AI models
The main change in Photoshop 27.8 is the option to use more AI models with Generate Image, Photoshop’s AI feature for generating entire images from text prompts.

As well as Adobe’s own Firefly Image Models, you can now use third-party models from Google’s Gemini family, including Gemini 3.1 with Nano Banana 2, plus Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.2 Pro.

The third-party AI models were already supported in Photoshop’s Generative Fill feature, but Generate Image also supports custom AI models.

Currently available as a beta feature, Custom Models make it possible to tailor the output of Adobe’s Firefly Image Models by training them with 10-30 of your own images.

The AI content generated should then better reflect the visual style of the training images.

Both training and using custom models consumes Adobe’s generative credits: training a model uses 500 credits, then using it to generate an image consumes 20 credits per generation.

For context, single-app Photoshop subscriptions currently provide 25 free generative credits per month: additional credits require a separate paid Firefly subscription.

Now supports OCIO 2.5 and ACES 2.0
For VFX, movie and broadcast pipelines, Photoshop now supports OpenColorIO 2.5 (OCIO 2.5), the latest version of the color-management standard.

The update brings Photoshop in line with the current CY2026 VFX Reference Platform spec, and includes configs for ACES 2.0, the current version of the color-encoding framework.

Photoshop has supported OCIO since Photoshop 26.0, released in late 2024.

Price and system requirements
Photoshop 27.8 is compatible with Windows 10+ and macOS 14.0+. In the online documentation, it is also referred to as the June 2026 release.

The software is rental-only, with Photography subscription plans that include access to Photoshop costing $29.99/month or $239.88/year.

Single-app Photoshop subscriptions cost $34.49/month or $263.88/year.
