Adobe releases Photoshop 27.6

Adobe has released Photoshop 27.6, the latest version of the image-editing software, widely used in the entertainment industry for concept art, texture editing, and retouching renders.

It’s a sizeable update, particularly to the AI toolset, with a neat new Rotate Object feature making it possible to rotate 2D cutout images within compositions as if they were 3D objects.

A new Remove Reflections feature automatically removes reflections from large glass surfaces.

There are also updates to the AI-powered Remove tool and Generative Fill and a few of the other features, including Dynamic Text and gradient fills.

New AI-powered Rotate Object feature lets you rotate 2D cutouts like 3D objects
Photoshop 27.6 makes one of the most viral new features from recent beta releases available in the stable build of the software.

Rotate Object turns a standard 2D image – ideally a cutout object – into a “rotatable 3D image”, making it possible to transform it to match the perspective of a background plate.

It’s a generative AI feature, which means that it consumes generative credits – in the beta release, it was 20 credits per use.

We’ve contacted Adobe to find out if this has changed, and will update if we hear back.

For context, single-app Photoshop subscriptions currently provide 25 free generative credits per month: additional credits require a separate Firefly subscription.

Reflection Removal automatically cleans up full-image reflections on glass
There is also a new Reflection Removal feature, which automatically removes large full-image reflections caused by shooting a subject behind a window.

It works non-destructively, generating the reflection-free image on a separate layer.

Adobe has demonstrated similar technology in its popular Sneaks sessions at its Adobe MAX conferences, so we’ve contacted Adobe to ask whether Reflection Removal is based on that.

New options for removing ‘distractions’ with the AI-powered Remove Tool
Of the existing AI-powered features, the Remove Tool gets an update to its ‘Find distractions’ option for… well, automatically identifying and removing distracting objects from photos.

On its initial release in Photoshop 26.0, it removed people, and wires and cables – to which, Photoshop 27.6 adds a new ‘general distractions‘ category.

Updates to other generative AI features
Generative Fill, for replacing parts of an image with AI-generated content, gets support for two new AI models: Google’s Gemini 3.1 with Nano Banana 2, and Adobe’s own Firefly Image 5.

They’re both on the pricier end of the AI models available: Gemini 3.1 consumes 20-40 credits per use, and Firefly Image 5 consumes 10.

In addition, it is now possible to use multiple reference images to guide the content generated: in Gemini, up to six, and in FLUX AI models, up to three.

New options for Dynamic Text and gradient fills
In addition, there are updates to some of Photoshop’s other features, including Dynamic Text.

When it was introduced in Photoshop 26.8, it automatically fitted text to a bounding box, but it now automatically flows and fits it around circles and curves.

The gradient fill system has also been updated.

It isn’t entirely clear from the online documentation what has changed: we think it’s that you can now edit existing fills created with the Gradient tool, not just Gradient fill layers.

In addition, you can now automatically remove empty layers and rename unnamed layers in the Layers panel, to keep projects tidy, and the Actions panel has been “streamlined”.

The release notes also mention the option to send images between Photoshop and Firefly boards, but it isn’t clear what’s new, beyond the changes made in Photoshop 27.5 last month.

Price and system requirements
Photoshop 27.6 is compatible with Windows 10+ and macOS 14.0+. In the online documentation, it is also referred to as the April 2026 release.

The software is rental-only, with Photography subscription plans that include access to Photoshop costing $29.99/month or $239.88/year.

Single-app Photoshop subscriptions cost $34.49/month or $263.88/year.
