Wacom announces new Cintiq 16, Cintiq 24 and Cintiq 24 Touch

Wacom has announced the latest models in its Cintiq range of professional pen displays: an updated version of the 16-inch Cintiq 16, and the new 24-inch Cintiq 24 and Cintiq 24 Touch.

The first update to the Cintiq product line in five years reduces the size of the displays, increases their screen resolution and color gamut, and updates them to the Wacom Pro Pen 3.

The new models will be available in mid July with recommended prices of $699.95 for the Cintiq 16, $1,299.55 for the Cintiq 24, and $1,499.95 for the Cintiq 24 Touch.

Thinner and higher-resolution than their 2019 counterparts
The new models are the first updates to Wacom’s mid range of professional pen displays – they sit below the Cintiq Pro line, but above the new Movink – since 2019.

The new Cintiq 16 is a straight successor to the 2019 model, while the Cintiq 24 and Cintiq 24 Touch supersede the old Cintiq 22.

The updates follow a similar pattern to Wacom’s refresh of its Intuos Pro graphics tablets earlier this year, reducing the physical size of the pen displays, but increasing their display quality.

All three displays are thinner than their predecessors, and the 24-inch models are actually smaller and lighter than the old Cintiq 22, despite having more usable screen space.

Display resolution has also been increased from HD to 2.5K, the supported color gamut has increased slightly, and Wacom tells us that parallax has been further reduced on the new screens.

In addition, as the name suggests, the Cintiq 24 Touch supports 10-finger multitouch: a feature previously reserved for Wacom’s Cintiq Pro products.

Now come with the Pro Pen 3
The pens bundled with tablets have also been upgraded, from the Pro Pen 2 to the Pro Pen 3.

Both support 8,192 levels of pressure sensitivity and a +/- 60° tilt angle, but the Pro Pen 3 is designed to be more customizable, with the user able to change the grip, button layout and weight distribution by swapping modular parts in and out.

Redesigned ExpressKeys and USB-C support
Ergonomic changes include the replacement of physical switches on the side of the Wacom 16 with virtual ExpressKeys, making it possible to use it lying flat on a desk.

For a more traditional drawing angle, the new model can still be angled by using its built-in feet.

Both of the 24-inch models are still intended to be used on an adjustable stand – bought separately to the displays themselves – although the Cintiq 24 also uses virtual ExpressKeys.

The new models also feature USB-C ports as well as HDMI ports, with the Cintiq 16 able to connect using a single USB-C cable, although you will need DisplayPort Alt-mode or Thunderbolt 3+ to do so.

Still no official Linux driver, although third-party drivers are available
For 3D artists working on Linux workstations, the new Cintiqs officially only support Windows, macOS and Android.

Wacom does contribute to the Linux Wacom Project, so a workaround is available, but there is still no official Linux driver for its products.

Similar prices to the 2019 models
Unlike with some of its other recent product updates, Wacom has not significantly raised the launch prices for the new Cintiqs from their predecessors.

However, those prices are higher than those for the equivalent displays from manufacturers like Huion and XP-Pen, which Wacom attributes to the quality of its products, and the cost of R&D.

Price and system requirements
The 2025 Cintiq models will be available in stores in mid July. The recommended prices are $699.95 for the Cintiq 16, $1,299.95 for the Cintiq 24, and $1,499.95 for the Cintiq 24 Touch.

The displays are compatible with Windows 10+, macOS 13.0+ and Android 8+.
