AMD’s FSR SDK 2.3 makes FSR 4.1 upscaling work on older GPUs

AMD has released FSR SDK 2.3, the latest version of its SDK for games and CG tools developers looking to integrate its AI rendering technologies into their software.

The update makes FSR 4.1, the latest version of AMD’s upscaling technology, available for RDNA 3 GPUs like the Radeon RX 7000 Series, as well as current-generation RDNA 4 cards.

A set of AI technologies for improving interactive performance in games and CG software
Originally known as the FidelityFX SDK, the FSR SDK provides a set of AI-based render processing technologies for improving interactive performance in games and real-time apps.

Its best-known component is GPU-based image upscaling system FSR Upscaling, equivalent to NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and Intel’s Xe Super Sampling (XeSS).

As well as games, it is supported by some CG software, including real-time visualization apps Lumion, where it is used to in the editor and render preview, and D5 Render.

FSR Upscaling 4.1: now available on RDNA 3 GPUs like the Radeon RX 7000 Series
Although the latest version of the SDK features updates to several AMD technologies, including AI denoising system Ray Regeneration, the main change is to FSR Upscaling.

FSR 4.1, the latest version of the technology, was previously officially only supported on current-gen RDNA 4 GPUs like the Radeon RX 9000 Series.

The latest update extends support to previous-generation RDNA 3 cards, which include Radeon RX 7000 Series consumer cards and Radeon Pro W7000 Series workstation cards.

AMD had previously announced that FSR 4.1 would be backported to RDNA 3 hardware in July 2026, so the update comes a few days earlier than expected.

FSR 4.1 support in RDNA 2 cards, which include the Radeon RX 6000 Series and Radeon Pro W6000 Series, is due in “early 2027”.

You can see side-by-side comparisons of FSR 4.1 with earlier versions of FSR in the video at the top of the story: AMD says it both raises frame rates and reduces visual artifacts in output.

Licensing and system requirements
The FidelityFX SDK 2.3 package is compatible with Windows 10+. It requires DirectX 12. The source code is available under an open-source MIT license.

FSR Upscaling 4.1 requires Windows 11 and a Radeon RX 7000 Series GPU or newer.
