Maxon releases Redshift 2025.5

Maxon has released Redshift 2025.5, the latest version of the GPU renderer for VFX, motion graphics and visualization work.

The update adds a new dedicated AOV for Ambient Occlusion, support for rendering USDZ files, and updates the Blender and Cinema 4D integrations.

The price of subscriptions has risen since the previous release, although at the time of writing, the software is available at a discount in Maxon’s summer sale.

Core renderer: new dedicated Ambient Occlusion AOV, and expanded USD support
Changes to the core renderer include a new dedicated Ambient Occlusion AOV, with AO shading parameters built in, removing the need to create a custom AOV to add AO.

Redshift can also now render UDSZ files, the compressed version of USD often used in AR projects; and the USD Procedural now supports nested instances.

Blender: support for rendering point clouds
The plugins have also been updated, with Blender users getting support for rendering point clouds, as shown in the video above.

The interface for the Cryptomatte AOV has also been updated, making it easier to create and manage multiple Cryptomatte ID mattes.

Cinema 4D: support for UDIMs in viewport previews, and better hair rendering
Cinema 4D users get support for viewport previews of assets with textures in UDIM format, support for UDIM workflows having just been added to the software in Cinema 4D 2025.3.

In addition, hair rendering has been improved, particularly for multi-colored hair, with with the old limit of four attribute samples per strand in Hair Strand mode having been removed.

Price and system requirements
Redshift 2025.5 is compatible with Windows 10+, glibc 2.28+ Linux and macOS 13.3+. In the release notes, the update is also referred to as ‘Redshift 2025.06’.

The renderer’s integration plugins are compatible with 3ds Max 2018+, Blender 3.1+, Cinema 4D R25+, Houdini 18.5+, Katana 4.5+ and Maya 2018+ (Maya 2022+ on Linux).

The software is rental-only. Subscriptions have a standard price of $46/month or $264/year, up $3/month or $25/year since the previous release.
