Rig and showcase 3D characters for free with AccuRig 1.3

Reallusion has released AccuRig 1.3, the new version of its free auto-rigging tool.

The software generates full-body and finger rigs for 3D characters and exports them in FBX and USD format for use in DCC apps and game engines like Blender, Cinema 4D and Unreal Engine.

In addition, the latest update makes it possible to upload a character to Reallusion’s ActorCore website and share an animated preview with clients or collaborators via a web link or QR code.

An alternative to Adobe’s free Mixamo auto-rigger
AccuRig – or, to give it its full title, ActorCore AccuRIG – is Reallusion’s counterpart to the automatic character rigger available with Mixamo, Adobe’s free online library of motion clips.

The software is designed for use with ActorCore, Reallusion’s own online library of 3D characters and motions, some of them available for free, but can be used independently of it.

It imports characters in OBJ and FBX format, generates a 19-joint body rig and a separate finger rig, and exports the rigged character in iAvatar format for use in Reallusion’s iClone animation software, or in FBX or USD format, for use in other DCC applications and game engines.

There are export presets for 3ds Max, Blender, Cinema 4D, Maya, MotionBuilder, Omniverse, Unity and Unreal Engine. You can read more about how AccuRig works in this story.

New in AccuRig 1.3: share animated previews of characters with collaborators
As well as exporting rigged characters locally, AccuRig 1.3 adds new options for sharing them with clients or collaborators by uploading them to the ActorCore website.

Users can share an animated preview of an uploaded character for viewing on desktop or mobile devices by generating a URL or QR code to send out.

It’s possible to customise the background, lighting, camera views and thumbnail of the preview, and to choose poses and motion clips from the ActorCore library to use on the character.

There is also an option to generate HTML embed code that can be pasted into a website.

Users can choose whether to make uploaded characters publicly visible, and whether to make them downloadable for anyone with the preview link.

Pricing and system requirements
AccuRig 1.3 is available for Windows 8+. It’s a free download. To export a rigged 3D character, you will need to register for a free ActorCore account, even if you are only exporting locally.
