iClone and Character Creator developer Reallusion has launched ActorCore, a new online library of stock motion-capture moves aimed at games, VFX, architectural visualisation and general CG work.

At the time of writing, 28 32 are available to download for free in FBX format with settings matched to common DCC software and game engines, including walk, run, idle and combat animations.

A new online library of affordable general-purpose mocap moves
ActorCore is an online library of general-purpose stock motion clips, ranging from movement and idle cycles to combat moves: the latter arranged in logical series for game development work.

There are currently just over 1,000 mocap moves available through the site, categorised both by business sector and by theme, including daily life, action and adventrue, and mediaeval and fantasy.

Each can be previewed in an online player on a range of male and female 3D avatars, with the option to mirror the animation, or zero the root animation on the character.

Selected moves can then be downloaded in FBX format at 24, 30 or 60fps, with export presets for Unity and Unreal Engine, and for 3ds Max, Blender, Cinema 4D, iClone, Maya and MotionBuilder.

Prices range from $1.50 to $12 for individual clips, and $59 to $200 for packs of assets.

The terms and conditions look pretty standard, but anyone aiming to use the data in games or interactive applications is required to apply to Reallusion for a mass distribution licence.

Free movement, dance and combat mocap moves
Updated 12 September 2021: At the time of writing, there are 32 motion capture moves available free on ActorCore: some permanently free, and the rest as part of launch discounts.

They include a range of walk, stand and run movements, plus dance moves and gunplay sequences.

Updated 12 September 2021: Reallusion has updated ActorCore to include stock 3D characters.

They’re all low-poly assets intended for use in architectural visualisation, game development or as background characters for VFX, clocking in at around 7,000 to 20,000 polygons.

They come with a single material with 4K metallic/roughness PBR textures: you can choose to download the texture maps at resolutions between 256 x 256px and 4,096 x 4,096px.

Each character rigged for both full-body and facial animation, including 60 facial blendshapes.

The assets are provided in FBX format, so they can be used in most DCC applications, but there are presets for 3ds Max, Blender, Cinema 4D, iClone, Maya, MotionBuilder, Unity and Unreal Engine.

Commercial characters are priced at $30 each.

Updated 24 January 2022: Reallusion has updated ActorCore to support colour and material variations for ActorCore characters, and support for facial animations based on ARKit blendshapes.

The firm has also launched a program of monthly freebies, with the first promoted character, a white male soldier in desert camouflage gear, available to download for free until 31 January 2022.

At the time of writing, three other characters are available free: white adult male and female characters with casual clothing, and a Hulk-style cartoon character.

Pricing and system requirements
ActorCore’s motion capture moves and stock characters are available in FBX format, configured for 3ds Max, Blender, Cinema 4D, iClone, Maya, MotionBuilder, Unity and Unreal Engine.

The free assets are licensed for commercial use.
