Tutorial: Unreal Engine 5 Material System Overview
A complete introduction to UE5’s material system, and how to use it efficiently in production
In the workshop, which provides five hours of video training, Silverman provides a complete overview of the material system in Unreal Engine 5, the new version of Epic Games’ game engine and real-time renderer.
For those new to Unreal Engine, Silverman covers the fundamentals, including how to prepare and import textures, how to create materials, and the relationshop between shaders, materials, instances and functions.
Topics covered include UE5’s Fresnel and Emissive Materials, color masking, vertex painting, translucency, clear coat shading, and parallax occlusion mapping,
For more advanced users, the workshop also explores how to set up material parameter collection that can be controlled via a sequence or timeline, for animating materials along with other sequences in a scene.
As well as the training videos, viewers can download the Unreal Engine project, including all of the materials created in the workshop.
