Maxon has released Magic Bullet Suite 16.0, the latest version of its suite of colour correction tools for compositing and editing software including After Effects and Premiere Pro.

The update adds new Halation and Optical Diffusion tools for Looks, along with initial OpenColorIO support.

It was released alongside updates to three of the other products in Maxon’s Red Giant Complete subscription bundle: Trapcode Suite 18.0, Universe 6.0 and VFX Suite 3.0.

New tools in Looks for generating hazes of light, plus an ‘initial look’ at OpenColorIO
Magic Bullet Suite 16.0 adds two new film and lens emulation tools to Looks, its set of cinematic looks.

Both generate hazes of light: Halation mimics light bleeding around the boundaries of bright areas in a film frame, while Optical Diffusion generates a more even overall haze.

In addition, Looks now supports colour-management standard OpenColorIO (OCIO), also supported in a wide range of other VFX tools, and its configuration for ACES, the Academy Color Encoding System.

In the release notes, the implementation is described as a “first look” at OpenColorIO.

Updated 30 June 2022: Maxon has released Magic Bullet Suite 16.1.

The update makes Looks compatible with Unreal Engine 5, the latest version of the game engine, and updates the version integrated into Cinema 4D S26.1 to include the Halation and Optical Diffusion tools.

Pricing and system requirements
Magic Bullet Suite 16.1 is compatible with After Effects 2019+, Premiere Pro 2019+, Final Cut Pro X 10.5+ and Motion 5.5 on Windows 10 and macOS 10.14+.

Individual plugins are also compatible with DaVinci Resolve, Media Composer and Vegas Pro. Looks works with Unreal Engine 4.27+. You can find full system requirements here.

The software is now rental-only, via Maxon’s Red Giant Complete subscriptions, which cost $79/month or $599/year, or Maxon One subscriptions, which cost $149/month or $1,199/year. Find full details here.
