Try Scatter: a free physics-based scattering plugin for Blender
Kiri Innovations has released Scatter: a free physics-based scattering plugin for Blender.
The intuitive tool also lets users scatter objects along paths, across surfaces and in volumes, for environment art work or set dressing scenes for visualization, VFX or motion graphics.
An intuitive free Blender scattering add-on with a range of scattering modes
There are already a number of other object scattering plugins for Blender, some of them free, and some of them physics-based, so one of the attractions of Scatter is simply that it’s both.
The add-on has three modes, Physics, Click and Simple.
Physics lets you drop assets into a scene, and have them settle naturally under gravity, as you can in tools like Cinema 4D, Substance 3D Stager, and Solaris, Houdini’s layout environment.
Simple is a more conventional scattering mode, letting you scatter objects across surfaces or within volumes, or distribute them along freehand curves.
Click is intended for hero assets, and lets you place simply by clicking in the viewport.
Created by the developer of Kiri Engine
Developer Kiri Innovations is better known for Kiri Engine, its 3D scanning app for Android and iOS devices. You can find more details in this story on Kiri Engine 4.0, the latest major release.
It can be used to create scattering assets, like rocks and debris – or, if you want to scatter food in your scenes, Kiri Innovations also has a free pack of scanned fruits and vegetables.
System requirements and licensing
Scatter is compatible with Blender 5.0+. It is available free under an open-source GPLv3 license.
