Download KitBash3D’s free Neo City buildings kit

Online asset store KitBash3D has released Neo City: a free set of cyberpunk-themed 3D buildings, from street kiosks to skyscrapers.

The ‘mini kit’ is intended to show off the new features in KitBash3D’s recent Kits 4.0 update, which updated the store’s assets for real-time use, adding support for the native formats of Unity and Unreal Engine.

The buildings are also provided in FBX and OBJ format, plus the native file formats of 3ds Max, Blender, Cinema 4D, Houdini and Maya, and are compatible with OctaneRender, Redshift and V-Ray.

High-quality kitbashing assets for concept design, matte painting and VFX – and now game art
KitBash3d provides sets of themed model parts intended to help matte painters, illustrators, VFX and games artists generate detailed 3D scenes more quickly.

On its launch in 2017, it became the first online store geared towards kitbashing and concept work, rather than providing complete architectural 3D scenes, and was quickly adopted within the industry.

Its current clients include HBO, Marvel, EA, Ubisoft and 2K Games, while the site’s commercial kits range from sets of futuristic, contemporary and period buildings to sets of vehicles, machinery and urban objects.

New in the Kits 4.0 update: support for Unity and UE4 and PBR textures
KitBash3D’s original asset packs were intended for use offline, but as of last week’s Kits 4.0 update, they now feature files in the native formats of game engines Unreal Engine and Unity.

As of the 4.0 update, the kits also feature PBR materials, supporting both Metalness/Rougness and Specular/Glossy workflows, and standard relative texture paths.

Models also now come with a second UV channel, intended for baking lighting in game engines.

In addition, assets are now structured more modularly, feature standardised pivots, and have been cleaned up to remove overlapping UVs, coplanar faces and n-gons.

Pricing and system requirements
The Neo City mini kit comprises a selection of assets from version 4.0 of some of KitBash3D’s most popular collections: Neo Tokyo, Neo Tokyo 2, Cyber Streets and Neo Shanghai.

It comprises nine individual cyberpunk-styled buildings, or sets of buildings – it includes an entire city block – with a total geometry count of 12.9 million polygons.

The assets are provided in FBX and OBJ format, plus the native file formats of 3ds Max, Blender, Cinema 4D and Maya, and are compatible with OctaneRender, Redshift and V-Ray.

The summary specs in its listing in KitBash3D’s online store haven’t been updated to include Houdini, Unreal Engine and Unity, but all are available as download options.

The Neo City mini kit is free for individual artists “for a limited time only”. For small studios – those needing access for up to seven artists – it costs $399. Enterprise pricing is available on request.

The assets are licensed for commercial use.
