EA’s Battlefield Studios backs the Godot Development Fund
We would like to thank @Battlefield Studios for the Corporate Platinum sponsorship. Thanks to them, we will be able to continue improving the engine for everyone, and welcome new users who are creating custom Battlefield maps using Godot + Portal.https://t.co/slQwEyI8LF pic.twitter.com/NnA7v76MmB

Battlefield 6 developer Battlefield Studios has become the latest major corporate backer of the Godot Development Fund.
The AAA developer’s Corporate Platinum membership guarantees at least €36,000/year in funding for the open-source game engine: roughly half the salary of a full-time developer.
The highest-profile game developer to contribute to Godot financially
Although it isn’t the largest donor to Godot development – Total Battle developer Scorewarrior contributes €100,000/year – Battlefield Studios is certainly the most high-profile.
The coalition of four EA studios, including Criterion Games and franchise originator DICE, was formed to develop Battlefield 6, the latest of the popular series of first-person shooters.
Battlefield 6 went on to become the best-selling game in the US in 2025, and won Game of the Year at the UK Video Game Awards.
Although Godot has other well-known backers – Slay the Spire developer Mega Crit is also a Corporate Platinum sponsor – as far as we’re aware, EA is the first AAA developer to step in.
Used in the level editor or Battlefield Portal
While Battlefield 6 itself runs on EA’s proprietary Frostbite game engine, Battlefield Studios does use Godot in the level editor for Portal, its sandbox environment.
The editor – you can see it in the clip above from last year’s gameplay reveal livestream – is a customized build of Godot, and enables players to create their own game content.
Although it comes eight months after the launch of Battlefield 6, the new corporate sponsorship seems to be a belated ‘thank you’.
The contribution doesn’t seem be a directed donation, so it will be used to support general Godot development, not specific upcoming features.
