Download Moonshot’s amazing rigged Komodo dragon model
VFX studio and stock asset provider Moonshot has released an ultra-detailed rigged 3D model of a Komodo dragon for free, for use in portfolios and demo reels.
The asset includes a facial rig, comes with multiple resolution levels and a readymade walk cycle, and is provided as a Maya file, and in FBX, Alembic and OBJ formats.
A rigged, production-ready lizard model for portfolio work
The Komodo dragon is a multi-LOD model with 2K multi-UDIM textures.
As well as an “advanced” body rig, it has a full facial rig – according to the demo video, it’s actually a FACS rig, if you need to add human facial expressions to your animated lizards.
It has a built in bone and muscle visualization system, so you can hide the skin and see the skeleton and écorché muscles underneath.
Moonshot has also created a readymade walk cycle animation for the creature.
Both the rigged creature, look dev asset and walk animation are provided as Maya .mb and .ma files. The model is also provided in Alembic (.abc), FBX and OBJ formats.
The free version is only licensed for non-commercial projects, but it looks a handy resource for portfolio and demo reel work.
Get commercial creature assets from the Moonshot website
The Komodo dragon is a sample of Moonshot’s commercial work, creating custom creatures for visual effects and animation productions.
The firm also sells commercial creature assets on its website: mainly land animals, from mice up to elephants, but also a dolphin and an octopus.
If you need to use the Komodo dragon in a commercial project, you can also buy the full version online.
