Kiri Engine 4.0 is out for Android and iOS
Kiri Innovations has released Kiri Engine 4.0, the latest version of its 3D scanning app for Android and iOS phones and tablets.
The release improves the processing speed and quality of the app’s photogrammetry toolset, and removes the export restrictions on free accounts.
A free AI-enhanced 3D scanning app for Android as well as Apple phones
First released in 2022, Kiri Engine – strictly, it’s styled ‘KIRI Engine’ – is a 3D scanning app for Android and iOS devices.
It began as a photogrammetry tool, reconstructing 3D models from source photos of real-world objects, and uses AI techniques for object masking and noise removal.
Recent updates have added support for Neural Surface Reconstruction, 3D Gaussian Splatting and Lidar scanning on compatible iOS devices: recent iPhone and iPad Pro models.
Kiri Engine 4.0: faster, cleaner photogrammetry
Kiri Engine 4.0 updates Photo Scan, the app’s photogrammetry toolset.
It is now “up to 5x” faster – around two minutes per scan – and reconstructs the surface of the object being scanned more cleanly, particularly in areas without many textural details.
Workflow improvements include a new AR mode, which shows the locations of the photos you have taken in 3D space around the object, helping to identify spots you have missed.
The number of source images that can be used to generate a scan has also been increased: from 100 to 150 for users with free Basic accounts, and from 300 to 500 for paid Pro accounts.
For Pro users, the algorithm used to generate PBR textures has been updated, and gives much cleaner results.
Export limits on free accounts have been removed
In addition, one of the major restrictions on free accounts has been lifted.
Users with Basic accounts can now export an unlimited number of files, rather than being limited to three exports per week.
That includes both photogrammetry and Lidar scans, with users able to export data to DCC applications and game engines in OBJ, FBX, STL, GLB, GLTF, USDZ, PLY and XYZ formats.
Pricing and system requirements
Kiri Engine is available for Android 7.0+ and iOS/iPadOS 15.0+. The app itself is free to download.
Free Basic accounts include photogrammetry and Lidar scanning. Pro accounts cost $17.99/month or $79.99/year, and unlock advanced features, including 3DGS.
