Maxon releases ZBrush 2025
Maxon has released ZBrush 2025, the latest version of its digital sculpting software.
ZBrush 2025.0 makes it possible to export files to ZBrush for iPad, the new tablet edition of the software, which is now included as part of ZBrush subscriptions.
The update also extends ZBrush’s export options, and adds new MatCap materials.
ZBrush for iPad now included as part of desktop subscriptions
The key change in ZBrush 2025 is not to the core software, but what else is included in a subscription with it.
Subscriptions to the desktop version of ZBrush now also include ZBrush for iPad, the new tablet edition of the software, which was also released today.
In ZBrush 2025.0 itself, the GoZ bridge system, for transferring data between ZBrush and other CG software, has been updated to support ZBrush for iPad.
According to the release notes, you need to be logged into the Maxon App to transfer files, and “back and forth live updating may work differently than GoZ does for desktop apps”.
Subscription is the only way to access new versions of ZBrush, Maxon having discontinued perpetual licences with the release of ZBrush 2024.0 last November.
New export capabilities
ZBrush 2025.0 also extends the software’s export options, adding USDZ support to the USD format plugin, and MOV export in the macOS edition.
OBJ export should also now be “significantly faster for larger files”.
New real-world MatCap materials
Other than that, ZBrush 2025.0 seems to be largely a bugfix update: the only other new features listed in the release notes are new MatCap materials mimicking real-world Monster Clay.
We’ve contacted Maxon to check if there are any other changes, and will update if we hear back.
Price and system requirements
ZBrush 2025.0 is compatible with Windows 10+ and macOS 11.5+. It is subscription-only.
ZBrush subscriptions now cost $49/month or $399/year, up $10/month or $40/year, Maxon having raised its subscription prices at the start of the month.
