Adobe releases After Effects 24.3

Adobe has released After Effects 24.3, the latest version of the compositing software, adding support for per-character styling in text layers.

Use scripting to vary the size, color and style of text on a per-character basis
After Effects 24.3 sees per-character styling, introduced in beta builds of the software last year, move into the stable release.

Users can now vary the font, size, color and styling of text layers on a per-character basis, via scripting, using the TextDocument DOM’s new CharacterRange and ParagraphRange objects.

You can find more details, plus a link to an example script, in the original beta announcement.

Other changes include a new paragraphCount attribute, which returns the number of paragraphs in a TextDocument.

Outside of text styling, there are no other new features in the release, although there are a number of bugfixes

Price and system requirements
After Effects 24.3 is available for Windows 10+ and macOS 12.0+ on a rental-only basis. Single-app After Effects subscriptions cost $34.49/month or $263.88/year.

In the online documentation, the update is also referred to as the March 2024 release or After Effects 2024.3.
