Free tutorial: Race Vehicle Concept Design – Cinematic Rendering

The Gnomon Workshop has released Race Vehicle Concept Design: Cinematic Rendering, a free tutorial recorded by Design Consultant and Artist Chris Beatty.

The intermediate-level workshop, aimed at concept designers and 3D generalists, provides over an hour of video training in Blender, After Effects and Photoshop.

Create an explainer for a vehicle concept with The Gnomon Workshop’s free training
The free three-lesson workshop takes the vehicle created for Beatty’s previous tutorial, Race Vehicle Concept Design, and puts it in a short rendered sequence, designed to show off and explain the concept.

For the environment, Beatty repurposes an older game asset of the Silverstone Circuit racecourse, showing how real-time assets can be reworked for visualization work.

He then brings the vehicle onto the track inside Blender, animates it on a path, and sets up camera animation, before rendering in passes and compositing the passes in After Effects.

Key techniques covered include preparing and refining geometry in Blender, reworking materials and lighting for offline rendering, scene optimization, and building a clear visual narrative around a design.

The lessons also cover practical workflows for adapting game-ready assets, managing scene scale, and quickly integrating existing environments into a cinematic pipeline.
