Enter the 2021 Hum3D Car Render Challenge

Online model library Hum3D has launched its 2021 Car Render Challenge, its eighth annual art contest for automotive modeling and visualisation. The closing date for entries is 8 December 2021.

Prizes include a huge range of CG software, including one-year licences of 3ds Max, OctaneRender, the Substance 3D Collection and V-Ray Collection, and subscriptions to The Gnomon Workshop.

One of the industry’s most popular CG art contests
Now in its eighth year, Hum3D describes the Car Render Challenge as the “largest awards event for the car modeling and visualization industry”.

To enter, you need to create an original 3D model of a car (pickups, vans and small trucks are also accepted), stage it in a 3D environment, and generate a render at least 1,500px wide.

Although some use of stock background assets like plant models is permitted, the work must have been created specifically for the contest, and not previously published anywhere online.

As well as the technical quality of the image, entries are judged on composition and visual storytelling, and there are few restrictions on subject matter, aside from adult or political themes.

Judges include automotive artists Maciej Ptaszynski, staff visualisation specialist at Tesla, and Carlos Pecino Albornoz of Colorsponge.

Closing date and prizes
After entries close on 8 December 2021, three overall winners will be chosen on the basis of the combined votes of the judges, each winning software and training usually sold for thousands of dollars.

All three main prizes include one-year licences of 3ds Max, OctaneRender, the Substance 3D Collection and V-Ray Collection, and subscriptions to The Gnomon Workshop‘s training library.

A further 15 smaller awards are judged by solely by the prize providers, which include the developers of Corona Renderer, D5 Render, Marmoset Toolbag, Marvelous Designer and KeyShot.
