E-on software has released Carbon Scatter 2015.5, the latest update to its instancing system for 3ds Max, Maya and Cinema 4D, improving integration with PlantFactory and overhauling the content browser.

The software integrates the EcoSystem algorithms used in e-on’s Vue software inside other 3D applications, enabling artists to populate native scenes with millions of instances, particularly of plants.

Compatibility with PlantFactory 2015, revamped file browser
The update also makes the Pro edition of Carbon Scatter compatible with version 2015 of e-on’s PlantFactory plant-creation software, building on the initial integration in Carbon Scatter 2015.

Users can edit plants in PlantFactory and save them directly to Carbon Scatter’s library. There is also a new “ultra-realistic” wind animation model for generating animated plants.

Changes common to both standard and Pro editions include a redesigned content browser, shown above.

Its features include the option to show collections of assets as individual tabs or folder hierarchies; to change the size of thumbnail previews of assets; to favourite items; and to or display all recently used items.

In addition, Maya users get a new Maya Convert tool for converting Carbon Scatter instances to native Maya instances, meaning artists can share scenes with other Maya users who don’t have the plugin installed.

Pricing and availability
Carbon Scatter 2015.5 is available for 3ds Max 2011+, Cinema 4D R12+ and Maya 2012+ on Mac OS X and/or Windows. The standard edition costs $195; the Pro edition costs $295.

The software is currently discounted in e-on’s online store until 31 July 2015.
