See Thea Render’s new GPU renderer in action

Solid Iris Technologies has released a teaser video of the upcoming GPU-based preview engine in Thea Render, its hybrid biased/unbiased rendering software.

According to the developer, the scene above was recorded on a PC running Windows 7, with an Intel Core i5 processor and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 graphics card. It has around 500,000 polys and uses sun-sky lighting.

The news has gone down well with users. One post on the Thea Render forum reads: “I don’t think I’ve been as impatient to try something new since I lost my virginity.”

We wouldn’t go quite that far, but it’s certainly interesting. The GPU engine will be included in the next public release of Thea Render, but as yet, there’s no news on when that will be.
