Wacom unveils MovinkPad Pro 14 professional drawing pad

Wacom has unveiled the MovinkPad Pro 14, a new $900 14-inch Android drawing pad.

With its 3K OLED display, it moves Wacom’s MovinkPad Pro product range, launched earlier this year with the MovinkPad 11, from student to professional territory.

And thanks to an experimental new app, both 2D and 3D artists can even use it as a wireless pen display for Windows or Mac workstations.

A standalone Android drawing tablet for CG artists on the move
Wacom launched its MovinkPad range of standalone drawing tablets earlier this year with the 11-inch MovinkPad 11.

Whereas the smaller model is aimed at students, the MovinkPad 14 Pro moves towards the pro market, with a screen much closer to Wacom’s mid-range Movink 13 pen display.

In fact, the specs are rather better: the MovinkPad Pro 14 has similar dimensions to the Movink 13, but a larger usable drawing area, and a higher-resolution display.

Like the Movink 13, it’s an OLED panel, capable of displaying a wide dynamic range of lights and darks, and supports the full sRGB color gamut.

It should also provide a pretty responsive drawing experience: the display has a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, and Wacom says that the response time is around 1ms.

The MovinkPad 14 Pro comes with Wacom’s Pro Pen 3, although unlike high-end Cintiq Pro devices, it isn’t bundled with modular parts for customizing the weight and side switches.

It also supports third-party pens from Dr. Grip, Lamy and Staedtler.

A step up in power from the original Movink 11
The underlying specs of the MovinkPad Pro 14 are a step up from the Movink 11: a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor with an eight-core GPU, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage.

As with its smaller cousin, it can connect to other devices via USB-C, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi.

Comes with Wacom’s own Canvas app and a six-month license of Clip Studio Paint EX
As an Android tablet, the choice of drawing and painting apps compatible with the MovinkPad Pro 14 is smaller than it would be for a Windows, macOS, or iOS device.

It comes with Wacom’s own Canvas app, although it’s only intended for basic ‘napkin sketching’: after that, you can export the sketch to other apps as a transparent PNG.

For more serious work, the MovinkPad Pro is bundled with a six-month license of Clip Studio Paint EX, Celsys’s digital drawing and illustration app.

Both Sketchbook and Krita also have Android editions, as does ibisPaint.

Can also be used as a pen display via an experimental new connectivity mode
For 3D work, a more interesting possibility – albeit an experimental one – is Instant Pen Display mode, currently available in beta via the bundled Wacom Lab app.

It makes it possible to use the MovinkPad Pro 14 as a conventional pen display on Windows and macOS desktop or laptop systems, via either a wired or wireless connection.

In press demos, Wacom described the mode as a step towards “wireless Cintiq” – the much-requested option to use its professional Cintiq and Cintiq Pro pen displays wirelessly – and pitched it at use with software like Blender, Maya and ZBrush.

Price and system requirements
The MovinkPad Pro 14 is a standalone tablet running Android 15. It will be available “this fall”, with a MSRP of $899.95.
