Fluid Flow lets you paint lava and sand into Blender Scenes


Prolific add-on developer Blender Procedural has released Fluid Flow, a new lightweight real-time multiphysics add-on for Blender.

The inexpensive Geometry Nodes-based add-on makes it possible to paint water, lava or sand into a scene within the viewport, and have it settle naturally under gravity.

To judge from the demo video above, workflow is pretty straightforward: users simply paint a material onto terrain in the viewport, and have it settle under gravity in real time.

The materials in question are liquids and granular fluids: the add-on has three dedicated modes, for water, lava and sand.

Fluid Flow isn’t the only Blender fluids add-on: as well as the popular FLIP Fluids, which simulates viscous fluids as well as water, we’ve covered promising newer solver Cell Fluids.

Both are more fully featured simulation systems: while Fluid Flow provides a basic range of control settings, its appeal is as a simple, lightweight tool.

The thing that really caught our eye was that as well as water, it simulates sand, which piles and settles under gravity, and lava, which flows, then cools and solidifies.

Blender Procedurals pitches Fluid Flow at non-photorealistic work – mainly motion graphics and concept animation – so if you’re working on a stylized project, it may be worth a look.

Price and system requirements
Fluid Flow is compatible with Blender 4.2+. It costs $14.
