Autodesk releases 3ds Max 2027.1

Autodesk has released 3ds Max 2027.1, the latest version of its 3D modeling and animation software for architectural visualization, motion graphics and VFX.
It’s a minor update, improving the output of Smart Bevel, adding new operators for the Data Channel modifier, and adding support for the latest version of Arnold.
Modeling: quality updates to Smart Bevel
3ds Max 2027.1 updates Smart Bevel, the new bevel-generation system added in 3ds Max 2027.0.
The changes improve quality of output rather than introducing new features, reducing artifacts on more complex geometry.
Modeling: new operators for the Data Channel modifier
The Data Channel modifier, for automating complex modelling operations, gets three new operators, for converting data between formats.
Arnold for Maya: Flow Render cloud rendering
The integration plugin for Autodesk’s Arnold renderer has also been updated, with MAXtoA 5.9.2.0 introducing support for the Arnold 7.5.1.1 core.
The main new feature is Flow Render, an experimental new cloud-based rendering system, but the update also adds custom AOVs for volume shaders, and MikkTSpace normal mapping.
You can find more detail in our separate story on Arnold 7.5.1.1.
MAXtoA also now supports tyFlow volumes, making it possible to render smoke and fire simulated with the new sparse fluid engine in the third-party particle and physics add-on.
Price and system requirements
3ds Max 2027.1 is compatible with Windows 11. It is rental-only. Subscriptions cost $255/month or $2,010/year.
In many countries, artists earning under $100,000/year and working on projects valued at under $100,000/year qualify for Indie subscriptions, which cost $330/year.
