See how Framestore created a CG battlefield for Lioness Season 3
Framestore has posted its VFX breakdown for Season 3 of spy thriller series Lioness, showcasing the CG battlefield the studio created to integrate with the 138-acre practical set.
The extensive camera movement throughout the sequence – which comprises 180 separate shots – necessitated a fully 3D approach in order to maintain convincing parallax and scale.
The work involved filling the landscape with trenches, debris, drones and explosions, across three different times of day, and spanned Framestore’s CG, FX, DMP and compositing teams.
“The battlefield sequence was designed to be much more than a standard action scene,” said Framestore VFX Supervisor Thomas Montminy Brodeur. “Our goal was to create an immersive experience that captures the devastating reality and emotional weight of war.”
