Check out Koala FX’s vertiginous VFX breakdown for Fall 2

Koala FX has posted its VFX breakdown for survival thriller Fall 2: Deadpoint, for which the London-based studio delivered over 400 VFX shots.

That includes a key sequence set on a narrow plank walk across the vertical face of Thailand’s Mount Kwan – fictional, but based on the real Huashan Plank Walk.

Koala FX created the mountain itself as a 3D asset for establishing shots, also creating 2.5D extensions for the practical set used for the climbing sequences, establishing a continuous environment across changing weather, lighting and story conditions.

“The goal was never just to build a mountain; it was to make people scared of heights,” said VFX Supervisor Menelaos Pampoukidis. “If the audience isn’t feeling vertigo, we haven’t done our job.”
