DivineCut and DivinePrint simplify creating 3D clothes in Blender
Animation studio and tools developer Xane Studios has released DivinePrint, a companion tool for DivineCut, its popular 3D clothing design add-on for Blender.
DivinePrint, which is available both as an extension to DivineCut and as a standalone tool, makes it possible to add surface decals to clothes, like logos, stickers and patterns.
DivineCut: a streamlined tool for creating animation-ready 3D clothing in Blender
First released four months ago, DivineCut is a fast-evolving plugin – it’s already up to version 2.5 and has over 30,000 downloads on Blender Market – for creating 3D clothing in Blender.
Its key selling point is ease of use: it has a minimal UI, and a very streamlined workflow.
To create clothing, users position control points on a 3D character, adjust control circles to set the width of the garment at key points, then paint on its surface to shrinkwrap it to the character.
Extra controls add zips, collars and hoods to the clothing, and the plugin also comes with a library of accessories, for adding features including buttons, pockets and cuffs.
Although the plugin doesn’t look to be as versatile as standalone tools like Marvelous Designer, it can create a range of types of 3D clothing, including shirts, jackets, skirts and trousers.
The clothes generated have clean, animation-friendly all-quad topology, with an experimental GameMode for exporting to game engines like Unity.
DivinePrint: quickly add decals to clothing or other types of 3D model
Although Xane Studios’ video tutorials recommend using specialist software like Substance 3D Painter for texturing the 3D clothing, new tool DivinePrint provides a quick way to add decals.
It enables users to ‘spray’ images onto the surface of the clothing to add logos or stickers.
DivinePrint was originally released as an extension for DivineCut, but is also now available as standalone tool for applying decals to other types of 3D model.
Price and system requirements
DivineCut 2.5 and DivinePrint are compatible with Blender 3.0+. DivineCut costs $39.75; DivinePrint costs $15 as a standalone application, or $10 as an extension to Divine Cut.
