Adobe releases Substance 3D Modeler 1.12
Adobe has released Substance 3D Modeler 1.12, the new stable version of the virtual reality sculpting tool, and Substance 3D Modeler 1.12.5, the latest public beta.
Features in the stable release include a new Assets panel, which lets users search the online Substance 3D Assets library inside the software in some interesting ways.
Sculpt organic and hard-surface models in VR using a virtual clay workflow
Substance 3D Modeler is a SDF-based tool that lets users sculpt both organic and hard-surface models in virtual reality, or in desktop mode using a mouse and keyboard.
Workflow combines elements of sculpting and Boolean modelling, with users able to build up forms with virtual clay, then join or cut into them with Boolean operations.

Substance 3D Modeler 1.12: new Assets panel
Substance 3D Modeler 1.12 brings the software’s new Assets panel to the stable version of the software, after three months in public beta.
It lets users search the online Substance 3D Assets library directly inside Modeler, either using keywords – or, more interestingly, using shape matching.
The feature lets users quickly sketch out a form, then have the software search the library for similarly shaped assets with which to replace it.
You can see the workflow in the video at the top of the story.
The update also includes a number of workflow improvements, and quite a significant decreate in GPU memory usage: Adobe says it can be “up to 50%” for heavy scenes.
Substance 3D Modeler 1.12.5: experimental new UI changes
The public beta of Substance 3D Modeler has also been updated, with Substance 3D Modeler 1.12.5 making a number of changes to the look and feel of the user interface.
They include the new optional light UI theme shown above.
Users can also now choose the axis used for symmetry and repetition.

Substance 3D Modeler 1.12 is compatible with Windows 10+, and these VR headsets.
