Download free After Effects plugin Crate’s Light Wrap
Generate quick, controllable light wraps in After Effects
Crate’s Light Wrap mimics the effect of light from the background bleeding around foreground objects: something particularly useful when integrating greenscreen footage of actors with new backgrounds.
It provides parameters to control the width and brightness of the light wrap, adjust its colour and blending mode, and how much influence the luminance of the foreground has on the intensity of the wrap.
There is also an option to premultiply the background before generating the light wrap, which stops anything behind the foreground from contributing to the wrap, preventing the background from showing through.
ProductionCrate had already released a free light wrap script for After Effects, but describes the new plugin as “faster and has more features”.
It provides a free alternative to commercial light wrap tools like the one available in Maxon’s Supercomp.
Other free After Effects plugins and stock assets
Crate’s Light Wrap is ProductionCrate’s second free After Effects plugin in two weeks, following the release of volumetric lighting tool Crate’s God Rays.
Licensing and system requirements
Crate’s Light Wrap is available for After Effects CS6+ running on Windows 7+ and macOS 11.3+. The plugin runs natively on Apple Silicon Macs, but may not work on very old Macs with Nvidia GPUs.
The plugin is free, and is licensed for use in commercial projects.
To download it, you will need to register for a free account on ProductionCrate, which you can do by selecting the Sample account on the registration page and unchecking ‘Donate $15/mo for 4K downloads’.
