Gnomon ships 3D Scan and Retopology for Production

The Gnomon Workshop has released 3D Scan and Retopology for Production, a complete guide for creating production-ready character assets via photogrammetry, recorded by concept designer Ara Kermanikian.

Produce production-ready static and animatable character meshes from source photos
During the course of the training, which lasts for a shade under nine hourse, Kermanikian runs through his own photogrammetry workflow step by step.

He begins by processing the source images in RealityCapture to generate the base 3D model and texture.

The 3D character scan is then imported into ZBrush, Maya and dedicated scan data-processing tool Wrap3 to simplify, clean and retopologise the model.

Over the course of the tutorial, Kermanikian explores how to use key toolsets, particularly for retopology work, including ZBrush’s ZModeler, DynaMesh and ZRemesher; and Maya’s Quad Draw tools.

According to Gnomon, the workflow generates production-ready results for both static and animatable meshes, and is suitable for use in visual effects, VR and game development work.
