Polygon Pictures has launched an English-language version of Sidonia-Do, its online store selling the 3D models used to create Knights of Sidonia, its sci-fi anime based on the manga by Tsutomu Nihei.

The show is currently available in over 50 countries worldwide via Netflix and other channels.

The Sidonia-Do store makes over 30 character models from the anime available for sale, including both the main protagonists and background characters, along with a range of mechs, ships and weapons.

The files are provided in FBX and OBJ formats with textures, although most aren’t rigged.

The models aren’t that cheap (hero characters cost up to ¥5,800 – around $50) and the license terms prevent the models from being used in commercial work, so they’re essentially available for creating fan art.

It’s an interesting idea, though – we aren’t aware of many other studios releasing actual production assets to the fan community – and you can download two of the background characters for free.
