Eye candy: Departures

We don’t usually feature crowdfunding campaigns on CG Channel – but Departures looks a bit special.

Directed by Gnomon School of Visual Effects graduate and Pacific Rim veteran Jorik Dozy, and being created in collaboration with other artists from Industrial Light & Magic, the VFX short follows “a desperate father throughout a single night, risking everything to give his dying daughter the comfort she deserves”.

The film is scheduled for a three-day shoot in Singapore in May, and Dozy is looking to raise $14,000, in part for location shooting fees; most of the crew are working for free.

Incentives include technical Q&A sessions with the crew over Skype, and an exclusive shot breakdown video. You can see some very atmospheric concept art and mood tests on the film’s Kickstarter page.
