Eye candy: Gnomon’s Winter 2013 Best of Term awards

Gnomon School of Visual Effects has announced the winners of its Best of Term awards for the Winter 2013 term, honoring the best student work created at the leading CG training school.

As ever, there’s some cool work in each of the categories, which range from character, creature and vehicle design to visual effects.

From Oblivion to award-winner
But the pick of the bunch is undoubtedly the Grand Prize winner.

Modelled and rigged by Leo Krajden and animated by Corin McCrate, with FX by Adad Morales, the ten-second shot (above) recreates the tricopter from Oblivion, and looks pretty much spot on.

Last summer’s Grand Prize winner, which riffs on Iron Man – with unfortunate consequences for some of the buildings on the Gnomon backlot – is also well worth checking out.
