Topaz Labs releases Gigapixel Pro and Video AI Pro

Topaz Labs has released Gigapixel Pro and Video AI Pro, new editions of its AI-based image upscaling and video enhancement tools intended for studio use.

Both increase processing speed, with Gigapixel Pro making it possible to run the software from the command line, and Video AI Pro adding multi-GPU suppport.

The new Pro editions are subscription-only and include features tailored towards large studios, including seat management controls.

Machine-learning-trained tools to upres still images and enhance video
Gigapixel is designed to enlarge digital images while preserving their sharpness, using machine learning techniques to fill in the missing details.

Its algorithms are trained using a data set of “millions of photos of all subjects and styles”, and can enlarge photos by “up to 600%” before image quality drops visibly.

Although it’s marketed primarily at photographers, it can also be used on rendered imagery, and has had a dedicated AI mode for CG images since version 5.3.

Video AI is capable of a range of video-enhancement tasks, including stablizing and retiming footage as well as upresing it.

Faster image processing
The new Pro editions of the software perform the same tasks: they just do so faster.

Gigapixel Pro can run from the command line as well as the GUI, which makes processing “2x faster”, although that depends on how many concurrent threads you use.

Video AI Pro supports multiple GPUs – it supports “even 10” AMD, Intel or NVIDIA GPUs – with the speed boost again depending on how many you use.

The maximum listed output resolution of the Pro edition is also higher than the standard edition of Video AI: 24K as opposed to 16K.

Subscription-only studio licensing
The other differences between the standard and Pro editions relate to licensing.

Rather than being available as perpetual licenses, the Pro editions are subscription-only, and come with seat-management controls.

Topaz Labs’s EULAs also now only permit use of the standard editions if you have annual revenue under $1 million/year.

Studios with revenue over $1 million/year need a new Pro license.

Price and system requirements
Gigapixel Pro and Video AI Pro are compatible with Windows 10+ and macOS 11.0+. They support AMD, Intel and NVIDIA GPUs and Apple Silicon M-Series processors.

Gigapixel Pro subscriptions cost $499/seat/year or $1,999/year for teams. Video AI Pro subscriptions cost $1,099/seat/year or $4,999/year for teams.

Perpetual licenses of the standard editions cost $99 for Gigapixel and $299 for Video AI.
