JangaFX releases GeoGen 0.5

JangaFX has released GeoGen 0.5, the latest version of its real-time terrain generation tool.

It’s primarily a bugfix update, but it makes the software available for macOS.

A real-time terrain- and planet-generation tool for games artists
First released last year, GeoGen is a real-time tool for generating heightmaps and 3D terrain, primarily for game development.

Its notable features include the power to generate entire 3D planets as well as smaller environments: JangaFX describes it as a successor to Grand Designer, the ‘procedural universe generator’ developed by Gil Damoiseaux, who is now working with the company.

You can find more details in our previous stories on the software.

Now available for macOS as well as Windows and Linux
GeoGen itself is primarily a bugfix update, although it does make the formerly Windows-and-Linux-only software available for macOS.

If you’re a Mac user, you’ll need to be running macOS Sequoia (macOS 15), the latest version of the operation, on a machine with an Apple Silicon processor.

You can see exact hardware requirements on the download page: GeoGen does not support the base M1, M2, M3 and M4 chips, but it does support their Pro, Max and Ultra counterparts.

Price and system requirements
GeoGen is is compatible with Windows 10+, RHEL 9+ Linux and macOS 15.0+. It requires at least a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580 GPU, or Apple Silicon M1 Pro processor.

The software is currently in commercial beta.

Indie subscriptions, for artists earning under $1 million/year, cost $9.99/month, with users getting a perpetual licence after 18 months. Indie perpetual licences cost $149.99.

For studios with revenue up to $100 million/year, perpetual node-locked licences cost $1,400; floating licences cost $2,300. See more pricing options here.
