Discover how to create games environments with SpeedTree
Check out Creating a Swamp Scene for Games with SpeedTree & Photogrammetry, The Gnomon Workshop’s new guide to games environment art, recorded by Haven Studios’ Adrien Paguet-Brunella.
The workshop, which is intended for intermediate-to-advanced artists, provides over 150 minutes of video training, covering Unreal Engine and Blender as well as tree-generation tool SpeedTree itself.
Create high-quality game assets using SpeedTree and 3D scanning
In the workshop, Paguet-Brunella sets out his workflow for creating assets for games environment with SpeedTree, using a swamp biome as an example.
He begins by creating high-resolution leaves, branches and flowers to use as source assets, using photogrammetry and photometric stereo capture.
He then explores how to create a hero tree in SpeedTree that can be used as a blueprint from which to generate variant trees to populate a game environment.
The workshop also covers how to process scanned ground and rock assets and turn them into tileable landscape materials, and how to combine the assets inside Unreal Engine to create a diorama.
As well as the tutorial videos themselves, viewers can download the SpeedTree files for the hero tree and its variations, plus three bark texture sets and photogrammetry data for the hero tree trunk and ground.
