Leading international animation, VFX and compter graphics conference VIEW Conference has announced the full program for its 2021 event, which takes place in Turin, Italy and online from 17-22 October 2021.

Highlights include legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins, recipient of this year’s VIEW Visionary award, in conversation with Dean DeBlois, writer and director of Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon.

Other panel discussions feature the directors of some of this year’s biggest animated features, including Pixar’s Luca and Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Raya and the Last Dragon.

The conference also includes talks from artists at VFX studios including DNEG, ILM, Sony Pictures Imageworks and Weta Digital, and researchers from technology firms including Epic Games and Nvidia.

Established over two decades ago, VIEW is one of Europe’s leading CG festivals, with a six-day program of talks, workshops and screenings, alongside its own animation awards, the VIEW Award.

This year’s conference features keynotes from double-Oscar-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins and animator Jorge Gutierrez, director of The Book of Life and Maya and the Three.

There are also sessions with the directors of many of this year’s biggest animated features, including Luca, Raya and the Last Dragon, Boss Baby 2 and The Mitchells vs The Machines.

Other confirmed speakers include ILM chief creative officer Rob Bredow, DNEG creative director Paul Franklin, and leading VFX supervisors John Knoll, Rob Legato, Roger Guyett and Christopher Townsend.

Panel discussions range from Badass Women Production Designers and Asian-American Directors to wider industry topics, including storytelling climate change, and artist stories from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Practical workshops cover everything from pitching games and story ideas to art skills like character design and lighting, and individual applications like Houdini, Substance Designer and RenderMan.

The show also celebrates the pioneers of the CG industry, with panels featuring ground-breaking artists and computer scientists, and retrospective sessions on landmark movies Dragonheart and Independence Day.


Updated 10 October 2021: VIEW Conference has announced that it will be possible to watch this year’s show for free, both online and in person in Turin.

Free tickets provide access to 150 sessions including talks, panels, keynotes, masterclasses, and workshops, but in person, priority will be given to paid ticket holders.

Online, free tickets provide access to live streams of the sessions, while paid tickets also provide on-demand access to recordings of the sessions after ths show is over.


Dates and ticket prices
The VIEW Conference 2021 takes place from 17-22 October 2021 in Turin, Italy. The conference is also streamed online, making it possible to watch from anywhere in the world.

Light passes, which provide access to the keynotes, talks and panels, cost €102 (around $118). All Access passes, which include workshops, cost €300 (around $350). Prices exclude tax and booking fees.

Free passes are also available under the terms described above.
