Eric ‘Mootzoid’ Mootz releases emReader for modo

Legendary Softimage developer Eric ‘Mootzoid’ Mootz has released his first modo plugin, emReader. The add-on imports geometry cache file sequences from RealFlow, Softimage and Maya into modo for rendering.

emReader imports OBJs, RealFlow .bin files, Softimage Polygonizer .emp2 files, and Mootz’s own .mzd format.

The plugin loads normal and motion vectors and texture co-ordinates, so animations can be rendered complete with textures and motion blur; and includes tools for fixing geometry errors such as holes or double edges.

The video above shows emReader in action to import both a fluid simulation and a character animation. Neat.

emReader is available as a free time-limited beta (it’s version 0.988, so presumably it’s almost final), for modo 601. Currently, it’s Windows only, but according to this thread on the Luxology forum, an OS X version is in the works.
