Watch VineFX’s VFX breakdown for Pompeii: Out of Time

Vine FX has posted its VFX breakdown for three-part National Geographic docudrama series Pompeii: Out of Time.

In the series, Tom Hiddleston explores ancient Pompeii, asking whether anyone could have survived the city’s final day, brought about by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

Vine FX provided the VFX for the dramatic reconstructions that accompany the documentary interviews, recreating both Mount Vesuvius and the city beneath it in 3D.

But the highlight is undoubtedly the eruption itself, with Vine FX simulating the millions of tons of molten rock, pulverised pumice and hot ash that Vesuvius ejected during the eruption, raining down on Pompeii, the surrounding countryside, and the Bay of Naples beyond them.
