Pilgway releases 3DCoat 2025 and 3DCoatTextura 2025
Pilgway has released 3DCoat 2025 and 3DCoatTextura 2025, the latest major versions of its sculpting, retopology and 3D painting software and its cut-down edition for texturing work.
Key changes in 3DCoat 2025 include support for Soft Booleans during voxel sculpting, a Node Room for authoring materials non-destructively, and support for more brands of graphics tablet.
Changes common to both editions include a new Hotkey Manager, non-modal search, and 18 new UI themes.
Part of an ongoing series of smaller updates to the 3D sculpting and painting software
Pilgway releases new builds of 3DCoat every few days, so the latest release is actually 3DCoat 2025.08, but it’s the first to be designated an official 2025 release in the online changelog.
The release notes include features that were rolled out during the 2024.x updates, so check out our story on 3DCoat 2024.30 for details of the new Array tool and integration with RealityCapture.
3DCoat 2025: use Soft Booleans in voxel mode
Key changes in 3DCoat 2025 include support for Soft Booleans – that is, Boolean operations with a bevel automatically applied to the edges created – throughout the Sculpt workspace.
Soft Booleans are now available when working in Voxel mode, not just Surface mode.
In addition, it is now possible to use your current brush radius as the radius of the bevel applied.
3DCoat 2025: other modeling and texturing features
The Sculpt workspace also gets a new Node Room, for authoring materials non-destructively. It makes it possible to create surface and volumetric materials by wiring together nodes.
A built-in external editor makes it possible to edit the nodes provided, or to create new nodes, using a programming language “close to GLSL”.
For polygonal modeling, the Modeling workspace gets a new ‘Smart Hybrid’ system.
It makes it possible to create “NURBS-like” smooth patches from a low-poly mesh, and save them to another mesh: either a high-poly mesh, another low-poly mesh, or a paint mesh;
3DCoat 2025: workflow and pipeline integration improvements
Other changes include an FPS monitor, which displays the current update rate of the viewport: according to the video above, it’s actually an existing feature, but one few users knew about.
The software also now supports drawing tablets from a wider range of manufactures: the release notes namecheck Wacom, Huion, XP-Pen and Microsoft’s Surface Pro tablets, although not Xencelabs.
For artists looking to sell assets on Turbo Squid, new scripts help prepare 3DCoat models for verification in its StemCell program.
The Blender AppLink – the live link between 3DCoat and Blender – has been updated to support Blender 4.2 and 4.3.
3DCoat and 3DCoatTextura 2025: new Hotkey Manager, UI themes, and non-modal search
Both 3DCoat and 3DCoatTextura get a new Hotkey Manager, making it easier to set up new keyboard shortcuts for tools and menu commands, or to remap the existing assignments.
There are also 18 new UI themes with different, customizable combinations of background, icon and text colors.
In addition, search is now non-modal, making it possible to search or filter all item types – alphas, materials, objects, layers, presets, and so on – at once.
You can find a full list of changes – there are a number of other smaller feature and workflow improvements in both apps – via the links at the foot of the story.
