UVPackmaster 3.4 for Blender adds one-click UV repacking
Developer Łukasz Czyż has updated UVPackmaster for Blender, his popular GPU-accelerated UV packing plugin.
The 3.4 releases add a number of significant features to the plugin, including one-click UV repacking, support for texel density, and the option to pack UVs by vertex color.
A fast, efficient GPU-accelerated UV packing tool
First released in 2018, UVPackmaster is a fast, efficient UV packing plugin.
It enables users to adjust the results on a per-UV-island or per-group basis, and supports tiled UV layouts, including UDIMs, and non-square layouts. See a summary of its features here.
The software is GPU-accelerated: originally only on NVIDIA GPUs, but with the introduction of support for the Vulkan API in UVPackmaster 3.3, also on AMD GPUs and Macs.
UVPackmaster 3.4 for Blender: new one-click Auto Repacking system
The 3.4 releases – the latest is UVPackmaster 3.4.2 for Blender – add a number of significant features to the software, including the new Auto Repacking system.
It makes it possible to configure packing settings for one or more meshes in a scene, then repack them all with a single click.
The plugin automatically detects changes made to UVs and packing options since the last repack operation, and only repacks the meshes affected by the changes.
Support for texel density maintains consistent texture quality in-game
In addition, UVPackmaster for Blender now supports texel density.
Users can set texel density in px/m on either a global or per-UV-island basis, enabling games artists to maintain a consistent visual quality when textures are displayed in-game.
Other new features
Other changes include the option to group UVs by vertex color, helping to organize them into logical groups, as shown in the image above.
The plugin can also now store packing settings as Option Sets inside the .blend file, as well as as presets saved as separate files.
Pricing and availability
UVPackmaster 3.4.2 is available for Blender 2.83+, running on Windows 10+, glibc 2.29+ Linux and macOS 11.3+. A new single-user licence costs $44. Multi-user Studio licences start at $159.
