Tutorial: Creating Cinematic Concept Art
The Gnomon Workshop has released Creating Cinematic Concept Art, a guide to professional concept art workflows recorded by Sucker Punch Productions Concept Artist Isaac Yeram Kim.
The workshop, which is aimed at artists of all skill levels, provides two hours of video training in Blender and Photoshop.
Master an efficient workflow for creating professional-quality concept art
In the workshop, Isaac Yeram Kim sets out simple yet powerful techniques for creating professional concept art, using only those tools that are absolutely essential to the process.
The workflow has a shallow learning curve, and is intended to prevent artists from getting lost in software menus, keeping art-making fun.
He begins by blocking out and planning the image, using basic tools in Blender such as Grease Pencil, then introducing the Scatter and One Click Damage add-ons.
The final part of the workshop covers refining the image in Photoshop, adjusting the base 3D render, then using digital overpainting, and color grading the image to bring it to final quality.
Isaac Yeram Kim also shares his thoughts on photobashing and discusses how to ensure the image quality remains consistent as new details are added.
As well as the tutorial videos, viewers of the workshop can download accompanying Blender and Photoshop project files.

Isaac Yeram Kim is a Concept Artist at game developer Sucker Punch Productions.
He has worked in the entertainment industry since 2016, creating concept art for film and games, and has worked at AAA studios including Naughty Dog, Treyarch and The Initiative.
